All work is carried out to the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules under Queensland’s electrical safety laws. Completed work is tested and you receive a certificate of testing and safety – keep it with your property records, as insurers, buyers and property managers may ask for it.
If you own a home, remember the Queensland smoke alarm deadline: all homes must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms by 1 January 2027.

Do I need a licensed electrician for electrical work in Queensland?
Yes. In Queensland almost all electrical work, from adding a power point to replacing a switchboard, must be done by a licensed electrician working for a business that holds an electrical contractor licence. FCS holds Electrical Contractors Licence 91222. You can check any contractor’s licence using the Electrical Safety Office’s online licence search.
What are Queensland’s smoke alarm requirements?
Queensland homes need interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms that comply with AS 3786-2014 in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the home, and on every storey. Homes that are sold or leased already have to comply. All other homes must comply by 1 January 2027.
What are the warning signs of an electrical problem at home?
Look out for safety switches or circuit breakers that keep tripping, lights that flicker or dim, power points or switches that feel warm, buzzing or crackling sounds, scorch marks or a burning smell. An old switchboard with ceramic fuses is also a warning sign. Stop using the affected circuit and have a licensed electrician inspect it.
What paperwork should I receive after electrical work?
After installation work, a Queensland electrical contractor must test the work and give you a certificate of testing and safety. Keep this certificate with your property records, because insurers, buyers and property managers may ask for it. For larger jobs, also ask for an itemised invoice showing the contractor’s licence number.
