Commercial Solar Power
Most commercial premises use most of their electricity during daylight trading hours – exactly when solar panels generate. That means more of the output is used on site rather than exported, which is where the savings come from.
The result depends on your usage pattern, roof space and tariff, so we start with your energy bills.

Commercial Electrician FAQs
What does a commercial electrician do?
A commercial electrician installs, maintains and repairs electrical systems in businesses such as offices, shops, hospitality venues, clinics and strata buildings. Common work includes lighting and power, switchboards, energy-efficient LED upgrades, solar, fault-finding and compliance testing such as test and tag, RCD testing and emergency lighting checks.
How often do emergency and exit lights need testing?
Under AS/NZS 2293.2, emergency and exit lights must be inspected and discharge-tested every six months, so they run for the required duration on battery power. Results should be recorded in a logbook kept on site. Failed fittings or batteries should be repaired promptly so the building stays compliant and safe to evacuate.
Do businesses need test and tag?
Many do. Queensland’s Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 requires certain workplaces, including office, service, manufacturing and construction work, to have specified electrical equipment inspected and tested. Testing to AS/NZS 3760 is the accepted method, and intervals depend on how harsh the environment is. Tags and a test register show you are meeting your obligations.
What documentation should I get after commercial electrical work?
For installation work, the electrical contractor should test the work and give you a certificate of testing and safety. For ongoing compliance, keep test and tag registers, RCD test results and emergency lighting logbooks. Insurers, landlords and auditors may ask for these records, so store them where they can be found easily.
Can solar reduce my business’s electricity costs?
For many businesses, yes. Most commercial premises use most of their electricity during daylight trading hours, when solar panels generate the most, so a larger share of the output is used on site instead of being exported. Savings depend on your usage pattern, roof space and tariff, so start with an assessment of your energy bills.
