Get the Power Right from Day One
A new home is the easiest time to get electrical and solar right. Cable runs, switchboard size, lighting positions and solar provisions are all simple to plan on paper – and expensive to change once the plasterboard is up.
FCS Electrical and Solar is one licensed contractor for the wiring, switchboard and solar. Send us your plans and we will review the electrical layout against how you actually want to live in the home, then quote the job clearly.

New Home Electrical & Solar FAQs
When should I involve an electrician in my new home build?
Ideally during the design or plan approval stage, before the frame goes up. Reviewing the electrical plan early lets you decide on lighting, power points, data, switchboard size and solar or battery provisions while changes are simple. Late changes after rough-in can mean extra labour, patching and variation costs.
What is the difference between rough-in and fit-off?
Rough-in, also called first fix, happens after framing and before plasterboard. Cables, conduits and boxes are run through walls and ceilings. Fit-off, or second fix, happens once walls are finished and painted, when power points, switches, lights, fans and appliances are installed and connected, then the installation is tested and certified.
What smoke alarms does a new home in Queensland need?
Queensland requires new homes to have photoelectric smoke alarms that are interconnected, so when one sounds they all sound. They must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home and on every storey. Alarms are typically hardwired, which is why they are best planned at the electrical design stage.
Should I install solar during the build or later?
Installing at build stage lets cable runs, switchboard space and roof layout be planned properly, and the cost can be included in your build budget. If you are not ready for solar yet, ask for the home to be prepared with conduit runs, switchboard space and a suitable location for a future inverter and battery.
How do you fit in with my builder or other trades?
Clear plans, a site contact and agreed stage dates are the key. They let us schedule rough-in and fit-off around framing, plastering and other trades. Talk to us early about your project, whether you are an owner-builder or working with a builder, and we will explain how we can fit in.
