Use More of the Solar You Already Generate
Most solar systems produce their best output in the middle of the day, when many homes are empty. Without storage, that surplus is exported to the grid for a modest feed-in tariff, and you buy power back in the evening at a higher rate.
A home battery stores the surplus and releases it when you need it. It tends to suit households with higher evening usage, low feed-in tariffs, or a wish for backup power during outages. We look at your system, your bills and your switchboard, and give you a straight answer on whether a battery makes sense.

Questions Worth Answering First
Battery savings depend on how and when you use power. These are the questions we work through with you.
When Do You Use Power?
Households that use most of their electricity after dark get the most from stored solar.
How Big Is Your Solar System?
A battery needs enough surplus daytime generation to charge it properly.
Export Limits & Tariffs
Low feed-in tariffs or export limits make storing your own energy more attractive.
Do You Need Backup?
Backup-capable systems can keep chosen circuits running in an outage – others shut down for safety.
Switchboard Space
New circuits and protection may need room on the board, or an upgrade.
Where Will It Go?
Location rules restrict batteries near habitable rooms, exits and windows.
Adding a Battery to an Existing Solar System
There are two common ways to do it, depending on the inverter you already have.
Hybrid Inverter
One unit manages panels and battery. If you already have one, a compatible battery can often connect directly.
AC-Coupled Battery
A battery with its own inverter, installed alongside your current system – useful when the existing inverter stays.
Inverter Upgrade
If your inverter is old or failing, replacing it with a hybrid unit can make the system battery-ready.
Solar Inverter Replacement and Upgrades
The inverter is the hardest-working part of a solar system, and it is usually the first component to need attention. Warning signs include fault codes or red lights, a blank display, beeping, repeated tripping, or a monitoring app showing little or no generation on sunny days.
Some faults can be repaired. Older units, or those out of warranty, are often more practical to replace. When we replace an inverter, we match it to your existing panel array and connection settings, and we will talk you through whether a hybrid model is worth it so a battery can be added later.

Inverter upgradeBattery Options, Capacity and Incentives
Batteries are compared on usable capacity (kWh), power output (kW), backup capability, warranty terms and whether they can join a virtual power plant (VPP). We can talk you through the main battery and inverter options and list the exact models in your quote.
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program can reduce the upfront cost of eligible batteries installed alongside solar. Eligibility rules apply to the battery and the installer and can change, so we confirm what applies to your system at quote time.

Solar Batteries & Inverters FAQs
Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?
Usually, yes. If you already have a hybrid inverter, a compatible battery can often be connected directly. Otherwise an AC-coupled battery with its own inverter can be installed alongside your current system. We check your inverter model and age, switchboard capacity and a compliant battery location before recommending an option.
How do I know if my solar inverter needs replacing?
Common signs include error or fault codes on the display, a blank screen, the monitoring app showing little or no generation on sunny days, or the inverter repeatedly tripping. Some faults can be repaired, but older units or those out of warranty are often replaced. A licensed electrician should test the system before any decision is made.
What is the Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
It is a federal Australian Government program that reduces the upfront cost of eligible home batteries installed alongside new or existing solar. The discount is generally applied by the installer through certificates, similar to solar STCs. Eligibility rules apply to the battery and the installer, so check the official government website for current details.
Will a battery keep my power on during a blackout?
Only if the system is designed for backup. Many batteries can supply selected circuits or the whole home during an outage, but this needs a backup-capable inverter and specific wiring at the switchboard. Systems without backup shut down during a grid outage for safety. Confirm backup capability and which circuits are covered before you buy.
What is a hybrid inverter?
A hybrid inverter manages both solar panels and a battery in one unit. It converts DC power from the panels to AC for your home, charges the battery with surplus solar and discharges it when needed. Installing a hybrid inverter with new solar, or as a replacement, makes adding a battery later much simpler.
Where can a home battery be installed?
Battery location is governed by Australian Standard AS/NZS 5139 and the manufacturer’s instructions. There are restrictions near habitable rooms, exits, windows and some other areas, and outdoor units may need weather and sun protection. We assess the site and propose a compliant spot, often near the switchboard or in a garage.
